Catherine Cotterill MCSP, BSc, MSc

Catherine has 20 years experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, having worked in both NHS and private settings. In the summer of 2012, Catherine was selected to work as a host physiotherapist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, with the Gymnastics and Trampolining. Since then she has been involved as a lead physio with the Gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and spent 2 weeks working at the 1st European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the summer of 2015.

 

Catherine also has experience working with Northumberland County Rugby, a National 1 men’s rugby side, the Newcastle Eagles Basketball team and the Irish Netball team.

 

As well as sports injuries, Catherine is interested in working with a wide range of techniques to help people with postural problems, work-related injuries, and a wide variety of conditions including back and neck pain, headaches/migraine and joint pain/stiffness.

 

Catherine's interest in rugby started during her time studying at Loughborough University and she later went on to play for the Scotland women's team. She has also had a life long interest in athletics and hopes to get her discus out again in the not too distant future!

Candice Smith (MCSP)

Candice graduated in 1995, with a BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh. After working for several years in a large teaching hospital, she spent a year travelling and working in New Zealand. It was in 2001 that Candice developed her interest in musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy, further specialising in the upper limb in 2006, with a particular interest in shoulders.


Candice has spent many years working closely with upper limb orthopaedic surgeons and peers within the NHS, and still works within the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. She is involved in research and audit and has extensive post-graduate MSK training. Candice has also presented at regional MSK conferences and thoroughly enjoys teaching and supporting other staff.


Joining the team at Apta Vita, Candice brings this vast experience to our patients, offering excellent clinical assessment skills and adding to our mission of helping to rehabilitate and empower patients to return to their fullest potential.


In her spare time, Candice enjoys dancing and playing netball as well as spending time with her family enjoying the coast and beautiful Northumberland countryside!

Michelle Thomson BSc

Michelle holds a first-class honours BSc Sports Exercise and Rehabilitation degree. She is a fully qualified Level 4 Sports Massage practitioner and Exercise Referral Specialist.


With extensive experience in the running industry, Michelle is passionate about helping other runners achieve their goals. She is also an accomplished marathon runner, having completed 11 marathons, and will represent England in the master’s category for the marathon distance this coming Autumn.

Tony Dunn Bsc

Tony is a Graduate Sports Rehabilitator (GSR) who is British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT) registered. He brings over 20 years of experience working with elite-level military sports teams, and recently with Newcastle United Women’s Football Club. Sport Rehabilitators are Registered Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) specialising in musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment, diagnosis and treatment. BASRaT regulates Sport Rehabilitators, and its register of GSRs is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority in Health and Social Care - the UK's top oversight body for medicine and healthcare.


Tony’s dedication to helping others achieve their physical fitness goals is evident in his positive approach. He combines his experience, knowledge and desire to help clients recover effectively from MSK pain or injury. Helping people of all ages and backgrounds, he uses a blend of manual based therapeutic interventions, exercise and movement to treat MSK conditions, reduce pain, promote recovery, and rehabilitate clients back to full fitness.
